DEIN BACKS WENGER

Former Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein was responsible for bringing Arsene Wenger to Arsenal. Now, he has backed the Frenchman to deliver the goods amidst a wide range of speculation that Wenger may leave the club at the end of the season.

Wenger had a hugely successful spell at Arsenal when Dein was at the club. The recent years, though, have turned extremely fruitless for the Frenchman, as Arsenal have not only struggled to finish with trophies at the end of the season, but they have also failed to comfortably finish in the top four as well.

The fight to finish in the top four has increased over the last few years, and Arsenal look the more likely to drop out of the top four due to the lack of investment into the team. The likes of Liverpool and Tottenham have been spending huge sums of money in the hope of getting back into the top four. As a result, there have been several calls for Wenger to leave the club, but Dein has backed his signing by saying that the Frenchman is the right man for the job.

Dein has dismissed any notion that Wenger has lost the desire and passion to manage football club by saying that it has been his passion for the last 30 years and it has not changed.

“I think he has the fire in his belly. I don’t see any reason why he shouldn’t be there. He is one of the best managers in the world, he has been coaching for 30 years, he knows what he is doing. He knows what he wants and I think it’s just a question of identifying the right talent. Arsene’s on course now to get the team to qualify for the Champions League for next season. He does that remarkably well and the club is financially very, very strong,” said Dein.
