Wright Does Not Underestimate Wigan

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has stated that his former club should not make the mistake of taking Wigan athletic lightly when the two clubs meet each other in the FA Cup semi-final. This was incidentally the last trophy that Arsenal one and it was back in 2005. Since then, they have failed to win any major trophy. This year, however, is seen as a great opportunity for Arsenal to end this trophy drought since the likes of Wigan and Hull city will be the opponents if they progress to the FA Cup semi-final.

It was indeed a case after they will be meeting championship outfit Wigan at Wembley for the semi-final clash. Since the two teams are separated by a whole division, this match puts Arsenal as the overwhelming favourites to reach the final at the end of the season. However, Wright, who was part of a very successful Arsenal team, says that any complacency ahead of this meeting will be disastrous for the Arsenal team, who have been beaten heavily by the likes of Chelsea and Manchester city away from home.

They seem to have overcome the away blues in the last few matches. Wigan come into the match after having beaten Manchester City in the quarter-final stage.

“Arsenal are a better team on paper, but if that was the case then Man City would be in the semi-finals. No one is going to take it for granted – Wigan have proven that they can take a scalp and they’ll be up for it. Arsenal are not going to take them for granted and if they do it’ll be a big mistake. I think [Arsenal will] be very professional – they’re going to have to be because Wigan have got a chance to retain the Cup,” said the former striker, who is one of the top scorers for the club.
