OZIL HAVING AN IMPACT

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has said that Mesut Ozil has had an impact similar to that of Dennis Bergkamp at his former club. The midfielder was brought from Real Madrid to break the transfer record of the club.

He has cost the Premier league outfit £ 42 million, but he has so far had a stunning impact on the pitch as well. He has contributed numerous assists and has scored goals as well. He has been compared with Arsenal legend Bergkamp and Wright believes that the comparisons are not beyond the mark.

Wright reckons that Arsenal can finally end the trophy drought that has been going on since 2005. Since the arrival of Ozil, there has been a real positive vibe surrounding Arsenal. Wright says that it is important that Arsenal maintained this vibe in order to end the trophy drought. Many thought prior to the start of the season that Arsenal did not have the squad that was capable of challenging for big trophies, but that has been proven wrong so far. Despite the numerous injury problems, they have been able to maintain the winning run going due to the strength in depth.

Arsenal are currently top of the table ahead of the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea.

“Without a doubt they can win something this year. If they can keep the injuries to a minimum and keep this vibrancy and energy that Ozil has brought to the club, then they can do it. Without a doubt, it’s similar to when Bergkamp joined Arsenal. We’re talking about two world class players, two world class performers. Dennis was an exemplary professional and when he played, my game went up 40-50 per cent because of his quality in every single training session,” said the former Arsenal striker, who is one of the all-time top goal scorers in the Premier league.
